FAQ

Answers
How do I know what type of Harvey Windows I have on my home?
To determine which type of vinyl windows are in your home, you must locate the warranty label on your window. Please refer to our warranty label chart.

What is the moisture between the glass?
Moist air can fill the space between the panes of glass when the seals along the outer perimeter of glass fail. This is called "seal failure." Seal failures allow moisture to penetrate into the space between the panes of glass making your insulated unit appear cloudy or fogged.
The Harvey Lifetime Limited Warranty provides coverage to the original purchaser for the repair or replacement of failed insulating glass units for the specific duration outlined in the Product Warranty.
To provide you with the most timely solution, we ask that you please contact your local Harvey Authorized Window Dealer. Explain or describe the problem to them, and they can arrange for an inspection to determine responsibility and order any replacement insulating glass units that may be needed.
If after a reasonable time, you have not had an inspection or your problem resolved, please call Field Service at 1-800-822-0437 or e-mail us at mfgcustomerservice@harveybp.com. In order for us to expedite your claim, please provide us with the following product information:
  • Order Number
  • Product Type
  • Date the Product was Installed
  • Description of the Defect

The product information can be found on your unit's warranty label.

How can I install an air conditioner in my Harvey Vinyl Windows?
You cannot rest the air conditioner directly on the vinyl sill. We suggest you put a 2 x 4 into the sill track that measures 1" or 2" higher than the sill so the air conditioner can rest on it.

How long do I have to finish my wood windows (Majesty)?
Finishing Harvey Majesty Wood Windows
Majesty Wood Windows must be finished with stain, polyurethane, or paint within 48 hours of installation*.

Staining:
  • Apply one to two coats of stain (wiping the sash after each application).
  • Apply two coats of polyurethane and sand with fine steel wool after drying.

Painting:
  • Apply one coat of primer.
  • Apply one to two coats of paint.

* Warranty: All exposed wood must be properly sealed within 48 hours upon installation. Harvey will not be responsible for water staining, discoloration, etc. resulting from condensation or moisture that takes place before units are finished on the interior. Please refer to the actual warranty for Exclusions and Limitations.

What do I clean my Harvey Windows with?
Cleaning Vinyl Products
Airborne dirt, dust, smoke, salt spray, etc. can usually be removed by using a mild detergent and warm water solution with a soft rag or brush. Grease, oil, or other industrial solids that have built up for some time, may require stronger solutions such as Mr. Clean, Soft Scrub, isopropyl alcohol (denatured or rubbing alcohol), or lacquer thinner.

Other cleaning agents that work well:
  • Mineral Spirits
  • Naphtha Solvents
  • Lanolin Cleaners

CAUTION: The use of sandpaper, razor blades, steel wool, or emery paper will leave fine scratches on the vinyl surface and could be damaging. To avoid damage to the vinyl, sample test an inconspicuous area with the cleaning solution and method of your choice.

Cleaning Glass Products
If glass residue is still evident after using glass cleaner, apply mild soap, mild detergent, mineral spirits, or naphtha solvents to glass by either spraying or using a clean, grit-free cloth or sponge. Rinse the glass surface immediately with clean water, removing the cleaning solution from the glass surface. Using a squeegee or clean, lint-free dry cloth, remove the water from the glass surface.

CAUTION: When using solvents, be careful not to damage glazing or insulating unit seals by overgenerous application of solvent. In addition, comply with solvent manufacturer's directions on label for toxicity, handling, and flammability warnings.

Why aren't my storm windows ENERGY STAR® qualified?
Storm windows, window films and interior doors are not eligible for ENERGY STAR at this time.
